Diving has become a popular sport and that is not without reason. The feeling of weightlessness, being active outside and the adventure of being in a completely different world where remarkable species live in alien landscapes make diving a unique and marvellous experience.
Who are we?
The Groninger Studenten Duik Club (Groningen Student Divers Association) Ad Fundum is a diving organisation for students in Groningen. Ad Fundum was founded in 1973 in order to make diving possible for students by giving dive training, making diving material available and organising (dive) events; all of this considering the budget of student. Our club is open for everyone who studies at the Hanze University or University of Groningen!
Club activities
Next to our diving weekends, the weekly pool training is the backbone of our club’s social life. Every Monday evening from 18:30-19:45 we have our weekly training sessions in the Willem Alexander Sportcentrum swimming pool on the Zernike campus. After the training, we go for a beer in our favourite pub De Bres. Next to this, we create a new event calendar every year that is full of fun, relaxing, exciting and / or educational events.
Ad Fundum is English Friendly!
As student life in Groningen has become more and more internationally oriented, and because international students play an active role within our club, we have been conversing and teaching in English since 2017. The training for the 1* diving license is given completely in English, more advanced training in English is a work in progress. Furthermore, all our formal club and board meetings are in English.
Introduction Dives
Always wanted to experience what diving is like? Sign up for an Introduction dive! Introdives are organised at the start of each semester. Your introduces starts with a short talk that introduces you to diving and our club. After this introduction it is time for your first diving experience with one of our instructors! After your dive, we will go have a beer at De Bres to get to know each other and exchange bold (dive) stories!
Learning how to dive?
Would you like to explore the underwater world but do you lack a divers license? No problem! At Ad Fundum, you can get all diving licenses up to the 3* license. You don’t have to pay for your education and training, only for your course / instruction books. This is made possible by our own instructors who like to teach diving for fun. It is even possible to grow towards becoming an instructor yourself!
